Swim Levels
Swim levels are provided as a guide for parents/guardians to reference upon registration. Our swim levels are designed with safety and positive progression in mind. If your child is registered for the wrong class, they will be moved to the appropriate level, which will result in a change of class time. *Reminder swimming ability varies differently for each individual. Every swimmer learns at a different pace.
-
6 months - 2 years
This class offers a gentle, playful introduction to the water for our youngest swimmers!
In this parent-and-child class, babies and toddlers explore the water through games and movement, all while feeling safe and supported by a parent or guardian.
Focus is on safety, water comfort, blowing bubbles, basic water movement, floating with support, and submersion readiness.
A parent/guardian does get into the water to participate with the child.
-
3 years - 4 years
At 5 years of age we recommend Level 1
25min class | Location: Pool Swim Square
This class is perfect for young swimmers who are ready to build skills with the help of a parent or guardian in the water.
Through fun and guided instruction, children learn supported front and back floats, basic arm and leg movements, breath control, and water safety.
Ideal for kids gaining confidence before swimming independently or group lessons.
A parent/guardian does get into the water to participate with the child.

25min class | Location: Pool Swim Square
Swim Starter/Beginner.
This class is perfect for swimmers with little to no prior experience who are ready to participate independently without a parent or guardian in the water.
Swimmers will learn to feel comfortable in the pool while developing foundational skills such as blowing bubbles, putting their face in the water, front and back floating with support, and basic arm and leg movements.
Safety skills like entering and exiting the pool independently.
The goal is to build confidence, body position, and readiness for more advanced swimming skills.
If you are unsure as to what level to place your swimmer in, please email Ashlyn.smith@islandreccenter.org

The focus of this class is placed on refining freestyle, backstroke, and introducing breaststroke and butterfly.
The goal is for swimmers to improve stroke efficiency. This is the last and final level of youth swim lessons. Learning proper technique at this level is important.

Ages: 6 years - 16 years
Swim Club is a great fit for swimmers who have completed levels 1,2,3 lessons and want to stay active in the water without the commitment of a year-round swim team.
Swim Club is designed for swimmers who are ready to build endurance, refine technique, and experience a team-style practice environment.
Participants will work on all four strokes, diving, and flip-turns.

Many factors contribute to a swimmer's development, and each swimmer progresses at their own pace.
Unlike traditional schooling, it is perfectly normal to repeat a level.
This ensures both the swimmer's safety and continued development.
